How to Create a Wallet
Creating a wallet with OKX Web3 is intuitive and beginner-friendly. The process is nearly identical across devices — whether you're using the app or browser extension.
On Web or Browser Extension:
- Visit the official OKX website and navigate to Web3 Wallet.
- Click Connect Wallet, then select OKX Web3 Wallet and install the browser extension.
- After installation, click Create Wallet, set a secure password, and confirm it.
- You’ll be prompted to back up your wallet. Click Back Up Now, enter your password again, and view your 12-word recovery phrase.
- Write down the recovery phrase on paper and store it securely. Never share it or save it digitally.
- Confirm the backup by selecting words in order. Once done, your wallet is ready.
On Mobile App:
- Download the OKX app from the official site.
- Switch to the Web3 Wallet tab and tap Create Wallet.
- Set a password and proceed to the backup step.
- Enter your password again to reveal the recovery phrase.
- Carefully write it down and verify it by reordering the displayed words.
Your wallet is now created and ready for use.
How to Import an Existing Wallet
If you already have a crypto wallet, you can import it using either a recovery phrase or private key.
First-Time Import (Web/Extension):
- Go to Connect Wallet > Import Wallet.
- Choose Recovery Phrase or Private Key, enter the details manually.
- Create a new password for local access within OKX Web3.
- Confirm to complete the import.
Adding Additional Wallets:
- In the wallet extension or app, click the account dropdown (▼) → Manage → Add Wallet → Import Existing Wallet.
- Enter your recovery phrase or private key.
Hardware wallets are also supported for enhanced security.
How to View or Back Up Recovery Phrase & Private Keys
To view your recovery phrase:
- Open the wallet interface.
- Click ▼ > Wallet Management > Backup Wallet.
- Select the wallet you want to back up.
- Enter your password to reveal the recovery phrase.
Note: One recovery phrase controls all derived accounts across supported chains. For private keys, each chain may have a different key — ensure you back up accordingly.
Creating a New Account
Each wallet can generate multiple derived accounts (e.g., Wallet A - Account 01, Account 02). To create one:
- Tap ▼, choose the parent wallet (e.g., Wallet A).
- Click Add Account.
These accounts share the same recovery phrase but have unique addresses per chain. Currently, removing individual accounts isn't supported — only full wallet deletion is possible.
You can rename wallets and accounts via Wallet Management > Edit Wallet.
Switching Between Wallets or Accounts
With multiple wallets or accounts set up:
- Click the current account name (▼) in the top-left corner.
- Select the desired wallet or account from the list.
Switching takes effect instantly across all connected DApps.
Using Watch-Only Wallets
A watch-only wallet lets you monitor an external address without importing private keys or recovery phrases. This is ideal for tracking "smart money" movements or portfolio performance.
To add:
- Go to Asset Dashboard > Add Watch Wallet.
- Enter the public address or ENS domain.
- Confirm.
While you can view balances and transaction history across 29 chains, no transactions can be initiated unless you fully import the wallet.
Resetting Your Wallet
Resetting clears all local data — including recovery phrases and private keys — restoring the wallet to its initial state.
To reset:
- Go to Profile Icon > Security > Reset Wallet.
- Confirm after ensuring your recovery phrase is safely backed up.
After reset, you must re-import your wallet using the recovery phrase.
Forgotten Password? Here’s What to Do
Since passwords are stored locally and not recoverable by OKX:
- If you’ve forgotten your password but have your recovery phrase: Reset the wallet and re-import using the phrase.
- Without a backup? Unfortunately, access to funds will be permanently lost.
Always keep your recovery phrase secure and offline.
